An International Money Order was at one time the best and most convenient way to send payments abroad. It used to be relatively cheap to obtain and widely available and accepted.
This is no longer the case.
The USPS still sells some International Money Orders. However, they are only available for a small number of countries and most of those are third world countries.
Due to long clearing time and excessive bank and collection charges, a US dollar denominated checks are also not practical to use for payments abroad.
The most cost effective way to make payments abroad is by a draft, denominated in the appropriate currency and payable through a bank in the country to which the payment is sent.
